Chiropractic Care

Your spine is a major part of your body because it is connected to your nervous system.  If any part of your spine is misaligned or injured it can cause dire consequences throughout your body.  The nervous system is a major part of your body’s immune system.  A breakdown in any part of the nervous system causes your body’s defenses to slow down or even stop.  Once your immune system becomes compromised, your body is prone to getting sick and developing diseases faster.  If chronic back pain or spinal misalignment occurs frequently in your everyday life, you should consider placing yourself under chiropractic care, in Jefferson, Iowa or Greene County and surrounding areas.

What is chiropractic care?

When are experiencing an illness that is keep you from your daily routine and you visit your doctor to be prescribed a course of treatment, you are under medical care.  Chiropractic care works in very similar ways.  If you were involved in a major automobile accident that left your back and neck pretty banged up, chances are you have been seeing a chiropractor to make sure your pain stays in proper alignment.  Each time you fall or get thrown around in a automobile accident, you run the great risk of your spine being knocked out of place.  One visit to the chiropractor, and you receive an adjustment or manipulation to put your spine back into proper alignment.  However, you are very active in your everyday life.  You exercise a few times a week to keep yourself in shape.  You help your family take care of your home, both inside and out.  Your children require frequent attention, and sometimes you find yourself doing things you are not sure you can recover from.  All of these activities can take its toll on your spine’s alignment.  However, at the end of the day, your chiropractor is there to give you a treatment to help you feel like yourself again., whether you live in Jefferson, Iowa or Greene County and surrounding areas.

What symptoms or health problems can a chiropractor treat?

Chiropractors do not usually have the ability to prescribe medication for different conditions or injuries.  You may not walk into a chiropractor’s office and find a miracle cure for all your chronic aches and back pains.  However, what you will find is peace of mind that chiropractor care is a holistic and non-invasive treatment approach that has been shown to help treat dozens of different conditions without drugs.  In other words, it is a way to heal the body naturally.

Many people who experience frequent headaches or migraines are quick to run to the medicine cabinet to pull out their over-the-counter remedies or their prescribed medications.  Sometimes these remedies work quickly, but sometimes they have been taken so much that the person becomes immune.  When this happens, the drug no longer works like it once did.  The doctor will have to prescribe a larger dose or a different medication all together for the patient to find relief.  If the patient only knew that being under chiropractor care could help bring them relief!  After all, the spine is connected to nearly every part of the body.  As long as the spine is misaligned in some way and the body is under stress, a person’s immune system will become rundown, making them more prone to frequent headaches.  Just one spinal adjustment or manipulation can help bring the spine back into proper alignment.  This will also make more oxygen-enriched blood flow faster to the brain, bringing relief to any headache the patient may be experiencing.

Every time your spine is slightly misaligned, it can cause added stress to your nervous system.  This makes it even harder for your blood to flow evenly through your body.  The harder your body has to work to make your blood flow, the higher your blood pressure will be.  Being under chiropractor care will not bring your high blood pressure to an end, as it is likely there are more factors causing it than a misaligned spine.  However, having a spinal adjustment or manipulation can help to relieve some stress the body is under.  This can help lower the body’s overall blood pressure.

Any type of chronic symptom the body experiences, including bowel irregularity, ear infections, arthritis and joint pain, or asthma, can be treated with a chiropractic treatment.  In some cases, regular spinal adjustments or manipulations can prevent the patient from having to undergo a surgical treatment.  This is good news for patients who suffer from scoliosis or even chronic back pain.  Expectant mothers can experience healthy pregnancies by undergoing an occasional spinal adjustment or manipulation.  There is no reason to worry about the patient’s or the baby’s safety.  Most adjustments or manipulations can be adjusted to handle the pregnancy with care.  Chiropractors can also choose to take additional trainings to specialize in treatments completely designed for pregnant patients.

Athletes can improve their performance by subjecting themselves to chiropractic care.  Adjustments or manipulations enhance the pulmonary system, making it easier for oxygen to travel throughout the body.  Many athletes will experience a surge in energy as the oxygen levels rise in their bodies.  As they are participating in their sport, the additional oxygen makes it easier for them to breathe and focus.  Their mental stress and muscle tension is greatly reduced, allowing them to put forth their best efforts.  Athletes tend to have a stronger immune system than a person who is not very active.  Having a strong immune system allows athletes to stay healthy and fight off any disease or illness they encounter.

A strong immune system is important for good mental health, even if you do not lead an active lifestyle.  While patients may be taking prescription drugs to treat various forms of mental illness, including ADHD, anxiety, vertigo and dizziness, and insomnia, a spinal adjustment or manipulation by a chiropractor just might make them feel a little bit better.  Keeping the spine properly aligned goes a long way to keeping the body healthy, both mentally and physically.  Conditions like spinal stenosis can be avoided by following proper alignment advice and practicing proper posture.  Years and years of poor posture and repeated injury or strain to the spine can render it vulnerable and susceptible to deterioration.  If enough deterioration occurs, the vertebrae will begin to shift or even grind down to nothing.  Discs can become slipped or herniated.  Before you know it, you could wind up in a doctor’s office discussing your options because you are in so much pain.  Walking up-right on your own becomes difficult.  Going up and down stairs becomes nearly impossible without being in excruciating pain.  If your spine has deteriorated this far, it will not be long before surgery will be needed to try to correct the damage.

Your spinal health and alignment is not something to be taken lightly.  If you are experiencing chronic pain, it is important to see a chiropractor and discuss the options you have to take better care of yourself.  Take the necessary steps to get your spine back into proper alignment, and you will experience a higher quality of life, with little to no pain.
